DUE TO HEAVY RAINS MOST OF THE KICK OFF HIKES HAVE BEEN CANCELLED.
To begin Botany Blitz 2025 and Wildflower Week, on Saturday, April 5th and Sunday, April 6th, KNPS will host a series of Kick Off Hikes in parks and natural areas across the Commonwealth.
These mainly easy nature walks will be led by botanizers and naturalists who know the native plant species that will be encountered in each area. As the Kick Off hikes are meant to start the Botany Blitz project, we are hoping that folks who plan to participate will sign up for an iNaturalist account (if they don’t already have one) and join the Botany Blitz 2025 project.

Saturday, April 5 Hikes:
11:30 AM CDT Walking Trail, Barren River Lake SRP: 1.5 miles, 3 hours, easy to moderate hike. Approximately 30 foot elevation change. Join hike leader Amanda Lasley at the Louie B. Nunn Lodge. We will leave from the park lodge and walk along the paved bike and walking path toward the golf course and down along a creek bottom. We will hike out and back, so anyone that wants to go a little slower won’t be left behind. This paved path is bumpy and uneven and sloped on a section near the golf course road. We will change approximately 30ft in elevation.
