Wild Yam -- Dioscorea villosa
Family Dioscoreaceae (Yam family)
This species grows as a low-growing vine, and can often be found on slopes, roadsides, open
woods and waste places. It is readily identified by its heart-shaped leaves. The lower leaves
are often arranged in a whorl. Minute greenish-yellow flowers are produced in May and June.
