White Bergamot -- Monarda bradburiana

Family Labiatae (Mint family)

Similar to the more familiar purple bergamot, M. fistulosa, this species can be found in rich woods and slopes from late May to early June (earlier than the more familiar bergamot), but is much less common. Another very similar species is M. russeliana, with long, lanceolate leaves, which is found in central/eastern Kentucky.
