Squirrel Corn -- Dicentra canadensis

Family Fumariaceae (Fumitory family)

Squirrel corn is very similar to dutchman's breeches (page 1) except that the flowers are more heart-shaped. This species is very often found alongside dutchman's breeches as its nutritional requirements are very similar, with the exception that dutchman's breeches are much more common. Squirrel corn can be found from April to May in rich wooded areas.
