Spring Beauty -- Claytonia virginica
Family Diapensiaceae (Diapensia family)
Considered by many to be the harbinger of spring, the spring beauty appears in March
or early April in fields, woodland borders and front lawns. Wherever found, these
tiny flowers appear in large stands. The flowers are about 1/2 inch wide, white and
with pink striations on stalks that are seldom higher than 6 inches tall.
