Sessile Trillium -- Trillium sessile
Family Liliaceae (Lily family)
This trillium is easily recognized due to the stalkless flowers. This species
has mottled leaves and small maroon to brown flowers which barely open even during
the peak blooming period. This trillium is common in the bluegrass region of Kentucky
(this specimen came from Mercer county) and is fairly uncommon in the westernmost portion
of the state.
