Purple Cress -- Cardamine douglasii

Family Cruciferae (Mustard family)

Another of our earliest wildflowers, purple cress appears on wooded slopes in March with pale pink or purple flowers on stems that are up to one foot in height. This species is fairly common in our area, but much more so in central and northern Kentucky. This specimen was found in Buckley wildlife sanctuary in Woodford county.
