Orange Milkweed -- Asclepias tuberosa
Family Asclepiadaceae (Milkweed family)
The milkweed family is well represented in our area with many species present. This one is
one of the more common species, found along roadsides during July and August. It is often called
"butterfly weed" since it attracts butterflies. Unlike most milkweeds, this species does not produce
the characteristic white latex from the stem when broken. This specimen was found at the bottom of
Newman's bluff in Livingston county.
