Common Mullein -- Verbascum thapsus
Family Scrophulariaceae (Figwort family)
This is the second of our mullein species, and appears a week or two after the appearance
of moth-mullein, about early June and persists until fall. The
stems may persist throughout the winter. The leaves also persist through the winter. This
plant may grow for several years before finally flowering and fruiting, and then dies.
It is not uncommon for this species to grow to a height of seven or eight feet.
