Harbinger of Spring -- Erigenia bulbosa

Family Umbelliferae (Parsley family)

This diminutive plant is one of our first spring wildflowers, sometimes appearing as early as late February, and can be found until early April. It is easily found because of the dark reddish-brown anthers and because it is one of the few wildflowers that blooms this early.
