Featherfoil -- Hottonia inflata

Family Primulaceae (Primrose family)

This unusual species is an aquatic plant with feathery basal leaves. It is a rare species of swamps, and can be found in great abundance in some years, and not at all in other years. At some point in the life cycle, this plant uproots and becomes free-floating. This specimen is from Twin Swamps Nature Preserve in Posey county, IN.
