Blue Dogbane -- Amsonia tabernaemontana
Family Apocynaceae (Dogbane family)
Blue dogbane is a common wildflower in our region, blooming from about April to July. It is
easily recognized by the inflorescence of bright blue star-shaped flowers on plants that can
grow to a height of 3 to 4 feet. As suggested by the common name, this species is apparently
poisonous to dogs, as most members of this family are poisonous.
