Bouncing Bet -- Saponaria officinalis
Family Caryophyllaceae (Pink family)
This species was introduced from Europe and has rapidly adapted
to this area. It is a perennial, often growing five to six feet
in height. Flowering is from July to September. This species
produces a slimy sap that forms a lather in water, from which the
generic name was derived. This species is most often encountered
in sandy soil along stream banks, roadsides and waste places.
